We are Radical Root Farm, a small family farm located in beautiful Libertyville, Illinois. Nestled among restored prairie land and forest preserves, we farm on a 150-year-old farm owned by a conservation organization. We grow certified-organic vegetables and raise happy, pastured animals in the most ecological way we can. We pay special attention to environmental and soil health, always striving to grow nutrient-dense food in fertile soil.
In 2013 we 'graduated' from the Farm Business Development Center at the Prairie Crossing Farm in Grayslake, Illinois and moved to our own farm in Libertyville. We lease land from the Liberty Prairie Foundation through an innovative partnership between the Foundation and the property owners: Conserve Lake County and the Lake County Forest Preserve District. We are grateful for many partnerships and generous individuals & organizations helping us become the farmers we are today.
Our plans for the Libertyville land include pursuing several permaculture projects on our farm, such as establishing a food forest, a movable chicken system, and an apiary to increase yields and encourage healthy bees.
“Instead of simply being careful not to harm the environment, we want to farm in way that benefits and contributes to the earth and to our communities.”
